Long term decisons for a brighter future
Long term decisons for a brighter future
Every three minutes someone in the UK will be diagnosed with dementia, it's one of our biggest health challenges of our time. Since working in the social care sector for the last two years, I have seen how families are affected and often left feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and confused, not knowing where to turn. I have seen my patients slowly deteriorate. Whilst my team of carers try to ease the stress from the families, there is still no clear pathway of understanding the progression of the disease and what support is available to families. My mission is to set up a clear pathway for families once clear diagnosis is made and to also ensure that proper social care support is also provided to the families and their loved ones.
My team and I recently took part in Nottingham's fundraising Memory Walk, where over 1500 people turned up to take part. Amazing to see so much support for the charity but also sad to see how many people have been affected.
When we loose one of patients in my social company to dementia, we donate a brass memorial leaf to the families so that it can be placed at one of Nottingham's nature reserves, so they can remember them in a tranquil and peaceful environment. Dementia is a campaign I feel really strongly about.
